The Spare Tire is on the Extinction List?

I have had a few flat tires in my day. And I have used the spare every single time. Pretty soon, I won't have that option.

What? No spare tire? That is correct, according to Consumer Reports. Basically, the majority of people don't use their spare tires, since they don't know how or can't change them. Many of us have roadside assistance plans anyway, so we don't need them!

What do we get instead? if you have a higher end car, look for run flat tires to become standard, otherwise, you will get sealant and inflator kits. Hmm.  I don't know if I like this.

I get that the car companies say it lowers the weight of the car and saves fuel, but is that really why? Just wondering out loud.
