Over the past week and a half, I must have received about 30 messages from friends claiming that I sent them a second friend request on Facebook. These are people that I'm already friends with.

If you are on Facebook, I'm sure you've seen this a couple of times already. People are wigging out thinking their account has been hacked.

The message starts off by saying; "Hi, I actually got another friend request from you yesterday". Then it tells you to check your account and to forward this on to your page, so you can warn your friends.

According to Snopes.com, this is a scam.

The message is basically playing off the fear of pirates cloning your Facebook account. Now that is real, but it doesn't happen very often at all. This is just some moron with way too much time on their hands seeing how many people they can trick into doing this.

So if you receive one of those messages or 50 or so like I have, just ignore it. Your account has not been hacked. You don't have to post about it on your Facebook page because most people know it is just a hoax. And if they don't, that's why I'm blogging about it.

Happy Facebooking.
