The 2021 Binghamton Pond Festival Has Been Canceled
The annual Binghamton Pond Festival is a weekend outdoor hockey tournament that takes place at Chenango Valley State Park. Every year hockey players of all ages and abilities converge on the park to play hockey outdoors in the elements.
People travel from many different states, as well as Canada, to participate in this yearly event which raises money for the local D.I.F.D. initiatives for youth mental health awareness and suicide prevention through the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.
The event has grown every year since its inaugural tournament in 2016. This year, due to all the circumstances surrounding the Coronavirus, the Binghamton Pond Festival announced via their Facebook page that they will be canceling the 2021 event.
Some of the concerns that factored into the cancellation include the 14-day self quarantine for people traveling to New York from other states, restrictions on the number of people allowed to gather at one event, and the concern for the safety of the players, volunteers, spectators, and the park staff.
This event is something that everyone can enjoy whether you play hockey or not. You can watch the people that are playing hockey, or you could just walk around the park taking in it's beauty in winter while enjoying the food that is served there, live music, and fireworks at night.
Organizers say that they are already working on plans to hold the event in 2022.
