Spring and summer events have been planned (some far in advance) and are ready for families in the Southern Tier of New York and Northeast Pennsylvania (the Twin Tiers) to enjoy!

One of those many events takes place on May 17th in Owego. This will be the inaugural 'Take My Hand' Mental Health Walk.  This soon-to-be annual event has already garnered so much interest that the location has been moved to accommodate an expected large turnout.

According to a release, the 'Take My Hand' Mental Health Walk was organized by the Julia Zepkowski Memorial Foundation. This event will take place at Hickories Park in Owego, following a venue change from Marvin Park to accommodate an unexpectedly large turnout.

Hickories Park provides more space and plenty of parking. Event organizers note that all of the pavilions on the riverside of the park are reserved for the event, and the walk will follow the main walking circuit.

The 'Take My Hand' Mental Health Walk will be the first event of its kind in Tioga County, and is a free, family-friendly experience. The day will feature plenty of activities, prizes, and opportunities to connect with representatives from local organizations offering mental health resources and support.

According to the organizers of the event, the Julia Zepkowski Memorial Foundation's mission is to raise awareness about mental health and suicide prevention throughout Tioga and Broome Counties.

This level of community interest and involvement is incredibly encouraging,” organizers shared. “It shows how deeply people care about mental health and supporting one another. - Organizers of Take My Hand Mental Health Walk

The hope is to make the 'Take My Hand'  Walk an annual tradition, continuing to grow awareness and strengthen community connections year after year.

The event will take place on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 1 to 3 pm. It is free and open to the public. For more information, email: TiogaCountyNYKids@gmail.com.
