Officials say SUNY Oswego is suspending in-person classes for two weeks because of a coronavirus outbreak.

They said September 18 that the campus will stay open and students won’t be sent home.

The college president says it shifted to remote learning as a proactive measure as it neared the state’s shutdown threshold of 100 COVID-19 cases.

Deborah Stanley wrote in a letter to students and staff that was posted on the college’s website that it has tallied 82 virus cases as of September 18 and was projected to reach the 100-case mark on September 25.

According to the SUNY COVID-19 Tracker, SUNY Oswego had 16 new positive tests on September 19 and ten on September 20 with 28 new positives over the past ten days. The total now stands at 93.

Binghamton University had 15 new positive tests over the past 7 days for a total of 58 reported September 20 on the COVID-Tracker.  SUNY Broome Community College had no new cases over the past seven days with a total of four cases to date.

One of the hardest hit campuses, SUNY Oneonta, has had a total of 342 positives since the start of the semester but only two new cases in the past seven days, both of which were reported on Tuesday, September 15.
