Soil Testing Underway at Stalled JC Senior Housing Project

Workers are drilling soil borings at the site of a long-awaited senior housing development in Johnson City.

Crews from North Star Drilling of Homer have been busy at the abandoned Endicott Johnson Victory building at 59 Lester Avenue.

A $50 million project to renovate the structure to provide 228 apartments was announced by Broome County officials early last year.

Although 330 cars that had been stored in the building have been removed from the sprawling complex, construction work has not commenced.

Developer Isaac Anzaroot had acquired the property from the county for $250,000 in December 2017.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar has expressed disappointment that the senior housing project wasn't moving forward. But two weeks ago, he said there had been some "really exciting developments" about the project.

Garnar refused to elaborate but he indicated an announcement was imminent regarding the site.

Officials have been looking for another developer to take the lead in renovating the unused structure.

Anzaroot won't discuss the status of the property or whether he is selling it.
