$47.8 Million Revitalization Project Of The Greater Binghamton Airport Underway

On Tuesday (November 7), New York State Governor Kathy Hochul made an announcement about a project now underway to "transform the Greater Binghamton Airport into a modern, state-of-the-art gateway..."

Of the $230 million Upstate Airport Economic Development and Revitalization Competition money earmarked for nine Upstate New York airports, $32 million was awarded to the project to upgrade the Greater Binghamton Airport in September 2022.

Broome County is excited to start this much-needed infrastructure project which will bring our airport into the 21st century. As we add more air service, it's important we also modernize our airport. According to the release from Governor Kathy Hocul's website, the improvements planned are as follows:

• Redevelopment of the Airport Road approach
• Construction of a new canopy and entry portals
• Reconfiguration of the ticketing lobby and outbound baggage area
• Renovation of the departures lobby and lounge
• Renovation of the baggage claim area and relocation of rental car counters
• New parking revenue control system
• Construction of a new 6,400-square-foot Customs and Border Protection Facility

The total cost of the modernization project which is expected to be completed by the winter of 2025, is $47.8 million. New York State Governor Kathy Hochul notes that the project should create over 500 jobs. The main terminal has not been upgraded in over two decades.

Other New York State airports awarded a portion of the $230 million include the Albany International Airport, Watertown International Airport, Saratoga County Airport, Syracuse Hancock International Airport, Sullivan County International Airport, Ogdensburg International Airport, Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport, and the Adirondack Regional Airport.
