The 2017 Dick's Sporting Goods Open Champion was back on the En Joie Golf Course today (Monday).  This time it was to visit with media members  and reflect back on his tournament championship last summer.  McCarron shot a 20 - under par 196 total to defeat Kevin Sutherland by one stroke.  McCarron's first place prize was a check for $300,000.

Visiting with media he reflected back on the birdie putt on the 18th hole that gave him the championship by a single stroke over long-time friend and rival Kevin Sutherland.  He shot a 1-under round of 71 on the first day last year and followed that up on Saturday with a blistering 11-under 61.  That set the stage for his duel with Sutherland.  McCarron's round of 64 topped Sutherland's 65 on Sunday and earned McCarron the winner's check.

Woody Austin, Joey Sindelar and John Daly finished in a tie for third place with 203 totals.  So far this season McCarron has earned a second place finish at the Toshiba Classic, a third place finish at the Kitchenaide Senior Championship and a fifth place finish at the Regions Tradition.  He has earned $644,000 so far in 2018.

Most of the top golfers on the PGA Tour Champions have committed to compete at this year's Dick's Open set for August 17-19.  Along with McCarron who returns to defend his title those planning to compete include: Bernhard Langer, Paul Goydos, Kevin Sutherland, Joey Sindelar, Miguel Angel Jiminez and Mark O'Meara.
