We've all heard it before, there are two seasons in Binghamton, winter, and construction season. Winter is over and construction season has begun. The mother of all construction projects is the I 81 Rt. 17 Prospect Mountain project.

This morning as I was reading all the changes for traffic patterns this week through the Prospect Mountain area I was getting confused and I had all the info in front of me. So I thought it might be easier to just blog about it.

According to a press release from the Department of Transportation here are the lane closures for the week. Work will be performed weather permitting.

Today through Friday from 9 am until 3 pm the right lane of St. Route 17 East will be closed between Exit 72 (Front St.) and Exit 4 (Port Dickinson / Binghamton. Traffic from 17 will still be able to exit at Exit 4 by using the I 81 exit ramp.

Going westbound you will have a few issues too. From 7 am until 5 pm the right lane of Rt. 17 West will be closed between Exit 72 (Prospect St.) and Exit 71 (Airport Rd.)

81 South between Broad and Fairview Avenues will have the two right lanes closed. That will be in place today through Thursday 9 am to 3 pm and Friday until noon.

State Rt 7 will also see lane closers throughout the week.

I hope that helps you with your travel plans.

Just think, a few more years, and it will be finished.
