The New York State Department of Transportation says several traffic pattern changes start September 16 on the Prospect Mountain Project including traffic reduced to single lanes on 81 South between Exit 5 and Broad Avenue and 81 North/17 West between Exit 3 and Exit 4-A.  those reductions will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Alternating lane closures start on Route 7 between Bevier and Frederick Streets and from Chenango to Broad avenue and on Broad Avenue from Abbot to Bevier Streets. that work will take place between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Friday.

There will also be flagging operations on Front Street betweeen Prospect Street and Bevier Street for construction truck traffic between 7 a.m and 5 p.m.

The DOT also advises that starting Wednesday, September 18, there will be a new, temporary traffic pattern on Interstate 81 south between the 81 South/17 West split and Exit 4-S-N (Binghamton/PortDickinson) in order to reconstruct a portion of the southbound interstate in the center of the highway.

Two lanes are being split around the center work area.  Motorists will find signs that say “BOTH LANES THRU” meaning southbound traffic can use either lane. Motorists wanting to exit at Port Dickinson, however, will have to use the right lane in order to get off the highway.
