Percussion In The Park Is Coming To Binghamton’s Recreation Park

I don't remember when I first became interested in drumming, but it was sometime before my teen years. I started taking lessons in elementary school, joined the band, and stayed with it throughout my middle and secondary school years, playing bass drum, then the tenor, and finally snare in the concert and marching bands.

My passion though was to learn to play on a drum set, but that never happened for whatever reason. I put away my drum sticks when I left high school and that was that. But whenever I hear a drum solo, my ears perk up. The love for drums never goes away.

And speaking of drums, “Percussion in the Park” is coming to Recreation Park on Binghamton's westside, presented by the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra and The Binghamton University Department of Music. This event is open to the public and is free to attend.

There will be two dates for Percussion in the Park, Saturday, April 30th, and again on Saturday, May 7th. Times for both events will be from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The  Binghamton Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra notes that the two events will be an interactive performance featuring brass musicians from the Binghamton Philharmonic.

In addition, new music created by Binghamton University composition students will be performed, under the guidance of Prof. Daniel Thomas Davis. These events were designed especially for the playground and the Binghamton Philharmonic.

The Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra notes that Recreation Park's OurSpace playground is a musical instrument, and an interactive session will follow the event each day, where you can learn to play the park.
