The tradition started at Arlington National Cemetery, but has spread all across the United States in what we now know as Wreaths Across America Day, where volunteers lay wreaths at their local cemeteries for fallen veterans.

This year, December 14 is Wreaths Across America Day, and there are a number of ways you can help volunteers right here in central New York. You can either become a volunteer yourself or sponsor wreaths online for $15 a piece that will go to your choice of 1,600 participating cemeteries across the United States, at sea and abroad.

There are a number of cemeteries here in central New York in need of help, including ones in the Binghamton area. You can find participating locations near you using this map.

Wreaths Across America's mission on December 14 is to remember, honor and teach, and this time of year, it can start with a simple wreath.
