Oppressive Heat Forecast for Twin Tiers
The National Weather Service in Binghamton is advising that some very hot and humid conditions are possible for the end of June.
According to a Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by NOAA at 4:18 a.m. on June 25, temperatures in the region could exceed 90 by June 27 with heat index values into the mid 90s.
While hazardous weather is not expected from June 26 through July 1, forecasters say hot and humid conditions are anticipated for Sunday, June 27 and especially Monday, June 28.
Officials say heat index values are forecast to reach the mid to upper 90s. Ambient air temperatures on Sunday and Monday were expected to be around 90.
With high dewpoint temperatures for the period, the "feels-like temperature" will be a few degrees higher.
Authorities say when heat index values are in the mid to upper 90s, there is an increased danger for heat illness.
The National Weather Services says Heat Advisories will be issued if confidence of health danger is high.
