Residents on the North Side of Binghamton are about to get a lift.  City officials say a shuttle bus will provide free transportation for residents to the Weis Market on Robinson Street on Mondays and the Price Chopper on Glenwood Avenue Thursdays starting June 12.

The Lee Barta Community Center on Liberty Street is the pickup location.

Mayor Richard David says the bus service will ease the burden for residents who have no personal transportation to have access to healthy food for their families.

The Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse is praising the start of the shuttle service as CHOW has been offering fresh produce in the neighborhood.

Shoppers on the North Side using the shuttle will have about an hour after being dropped off at the store before being taken back to the North Side.

The neighborhood has not had a full-service grocery store since the 1990s.

Mayor David says the City is still working to bring a grocery store back to the North Side.
