No Arrests Eight Months After Arson Fire in Binghamton’s Rec Park

Binghamton officials won't say whether suspects have been identified in connection with the blaze that ripped through a specially-designed playground at Recreation Park.

The arson fire caused heavy damage to the OurSpace facility early on the morning of June 1.

There have been no recent updates on the status of the police investigation. Mayor Richard David Tuesday said he was unable to say much about the case.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, David said detectives "are still working on it."

The mayor repeated his belief that "there are people in this community that know exactly who did it and for whatever reason haven't come forward."

David said it's "very disappointing" that after eight months, that information is not being provided to police investigators.

The mayor said the case "is a top priority for the Binghamton police department."

West Side resident John Solak has said he is offering a $2,000 reward for information leading to the arson suspects.
