Night Work on I81/Rt.17 & Sanford Bridge Replacement

Lane closures are possible for night work on Interstate 81 and Route 17 in both directions in Kirkwood and Binghamton through July 11.

The New York State Department of Transportation is not specific on the exact location or nature of the construction between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. daily with some single-lane closures possible during the daytime hours as well according to a brief "Tweet" from the DOT.

Meanwhile, the Broome County Department of Public Works is giving motorists advance warning of a bridge replacement in the Town of Sanford that will mean detours for months.

Officials say work on the North Sanford Bridge will close the span starting next Tuesday, June 1 at 7 a.m.  The bridge will not reopen to traffic until 4 p.m. September 30.

All local traffic will need to seek alternate routes while the bridge is closed.  A singed detour route will be posted during the closure.
