New York Nursing Homes to Welcome Back Visitors

Families who have not been able to see their loved ones in New York nursing homes for almost a year may soon be able to have face-to-face contact.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says nursing home visits are about to resume.

The Democrat February 19 said residents and staff have now all be offered the vaccine and 73 percent have accepted.

The Department of Health is recommending nursing homes be allowed to reopen to visitors and will be putting out guidelines soon, including on-site rapid testing of visitors.

Every visitor would have to be tested for the coronavirus before entering a congregate living facility and the homes will have other specific rules concerning sanitation, masking and other protocols.

The Department of Health will be providing the rapid testing materials to nursing homes cost-free.
