New York State’s number of new coronavirus cases and deaths is continuing to slow daily. 

April 22, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo reported 474 new deaths, marking several days in a row the death toll has been below 500.  There were 5,526 new coronavirus cases for a total of 257,216.  A total of 15,302 New Yorkers have died since the pandemic hit in March.

Cuomo still calls the death rate horrific and cautions there are still thousands of people coming to heavily burdened hospitals infected with the coronavirus

Chenango County is finally listing COVID-19 fatalities, days after rumors of at least one death at the Veteran’s Administration Home in Oxford.  The County has had 2 coronavirus deaths including the passing of World War II veteran John DePersis of Johnson City.  According to an obituary published April 19, the former Representative to the New York State Legislature for the American Legion died April 13.

Broome County had no new fatalities, holding the coronavirus death toll at 12.  The County did report 16 new confirmed cases, bringing the total to 241.  There have been 86 patients who have recovered.

Cortland County reports 32 positive cases and 26 recoveries.  Delaware County, which has had four deaths from COVID-19 has three new positive cases, bringing its total to 65.  Tioga County added two cases for a total of 67 positive, 4 deaths and 20 recovered.
