Create Unforgettable Memories Camping In New York This Season
Sure, it's only the middle of February, but I've been thinking about the 2026 camping season. May 1st has been circled on my calendar for a while now. Okay, actually, since the 2025 camping season ended in October.
Camping has been a part of my life for decades, and it's a great way to get away from the stress of life and enjoy the beauty of our slice of the USA during the warm months.
New York State is an amazing state for camping. And there are so many ways to camp, including roughing it in the back country areas of the Empire State, tent camping in one of the many campgrounds, maybe with a travel trailer, or glamping for those who want to enjoy the great outdoors, but want some of home's luxuries as well.
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has several options in 2026 for campgrounds and day use. Opening dates range from May 8th through the 15th, depending on the site.
