A residential drug treatment facility is expected to open next year at the site of the former Broome Developmental Center.

Local and state officials on Friday announced plans for the treatment services at the town of Dickinson facility.

Renovation work is underway in a building that had been used by the developmental center, which was closed by the state 18 months ago.

Drug treatment services will be provided by Syracuse Behavioral Healthcare. The facility is expected to employ 70 people.

The site is to house up to 50 medically-supervised withdrawal and stabilization beds. It also will have up to 50 residential rehabilitation beds. Officials say those services are not available in Broome County.

New York state government is expected to provide up to $3 million a year for the facility.
