There is a new conviction in an old shooting in Cortland County.

A City of Cortland woman will be sentenced in August for shooting a man during a fight at a party years ago and fleeing to Virginia.

District Attorney Patrick Perfetti says 32-year-old Shanessa Pittman was convicted of felony assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment in the shooting almost 6 years ago in which a man was shot in the arm.

Officials say in August of 2013, Pittman was in a group of people gathered outside the home where she was staying and emotions ran high with Pittman firing a small caliber semiautomatic handgun, shooting Jevar Sturridge in the arm.  Authorities say Pittman fled as the crowd disbursed before Cortland City Police arrived and the woman ended up in Virginia.

Pittman was arrested in Newport News on August 30 last year by the U.S. Marshal Service and Newport News Police.

The Cortland District Attorney says Pittman faces up to 15 years in prison for criminal possession of a weapon when she is sentenced on August 15.
