Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced $3.4 million for projects in Conklin, Johnson City and the Town of Union under the NY Rising Community Reconstruction Projects funds.

Conklin is to get $313,797 to put in a storm water drainage system on Stillwater Road through private property that will discharge into the river.  The idea is to keep an evacuation route open for residents on the road.

The Town of Union is to use $2,653,752 for a new refuse garage to be located outside the floodplain on Wayne Street.

Johnson City’s allocation of $444,850 would go to replacing the Water Department Maintenance/Storage Building at a higher elevation.

This week the board approved a feasibility study by Delta Engineering that looked at tearing down the Department of Public Works building that was flooded in 2011 and building a new facility on Grand Avenue at the former site of Philadelphia Sales store or rebuilding it at the same location.  Putting the building on Grand Avenue would cost up to $10 million.  That block also included the old location of Maines Cash and Carry which was also flooded in 2011. Maines then moved to a large, new facility on upper Front Street in the Town of Chenango.

Rebuilding the Public Works facility on Brown Street was estimated to cost between $12 million and $13 million.
