Thousands of square feet of office space is empty along Washington Avenue in Endicott because banks are shifting to smaller branch operations.

Citizens Bank closed its office at 18 Washington Avenue last month as it moved to a space one-third the size on North Street.

Endicott National Bank opened the two-story complex with some fanfare in November 1960 with former Miss America Bess Myerson on hand for the dedication ceremony.

Broome County property records show the building has 14,400 square feet of rentable space.

Real estate agent Robert Harkness said the property will be listed for $375,000.

Harkness also has the listing for another nearby building that had been used by various banks over the last several decades. The property at 43 Washington Avenue most recently was utilized by M&T Bank. The company continues to occupy space in a neighboring building.
