Managing Your Pre-Vacation
Vacations. I love them. It's a time to get your relaxation on. Who doesn't love a good vacation? Sometimes I don't. Let me explain.
At times, preparing for an upcoming vacation came be a bit of a pain in the butt. Maybe you have the same frustrations I do sometimes. Here's why.
As a manager, I plan for everything that's going to happen while I'm away. It's a long laundry list of things, and I'm always worried that something is going to fall through the cracks. Is the music done for each day I'm on vacation? Are fill-in personalities set to do my show? Who's in charge of our website when I'm gone? Did Jim come up with another lame Whale Weekend theme idea? Are our contests and promotions good to go? That's just scratching the surface.
Now, don't' get me wrong, I'm not complaining or looking for sympathy because I imagine no matter what your job is, everyone has some prep work to get done so all your responsibilities are covered while you're at the beach sipping on an iced drink.
And when you get back from vacation, at times there are fires to put out from whatever happened while you were on vacation. There are tons of things piled up in the 'to-do' box on your desk, and on and on.
Vacations. Are they worth it? Hell yes. Can't wait for next Monday. Here I come, campground!
