It's a two-for-one Southern Tier Close Up Sunday at 6am on 99.1 The Whale.

Jennifer O'Brien is the Executive Director of the Magic Paintbrush Project in the Southern Tier and she is also involved in the OurSpace renovations at Recreation Park in Binghamton to make the facilities accessible for everyone, no matter age or abilities.

First, O'Brien talks about the therapeutic benefits that have been reaped by persons with various disabilities through the Magic Paintbrush, Life Is Washable, Inc., projects, which include painting sessions with local sports figures and celebrities, among others.

The group provides creative family and caregiver supports to the special needs community and has been around since 2006.

Donations are always needed.  Information can be found at www.magicpaintbrushproject.org.

Only slightly changing the subject, O'Brien has also been working on an ambitious project to make sure all facilities and equipment at Recreation Park on Beethoven Street can be used by everyone, including children of all ages and abilities as well as family members up to grandparents. But, like the Magic Paintbrush, OurSpace at recreation park provides extensive benefits for people with various disabilities.

That project has been  moving along with the help of dozens of volunteers, including some Binghamton University students and faculty who have worked on everything from plan development to actual physical site preparation.

Information about the Our Space project can be found at www.ourspacepark.org.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Sundays at 6 am on 99.1 The Whale.
