Officials with the American Red Cross say volunteers Christian Passela, of Bainbridge, and Diane Dellacorino-Thomas, of Harpursville, are deploying to Florida as shelter workers.

While the path of the storm is still uncertain, the Red Cross says about 19 million people live in areas that could be impacted.

The storm largely spared the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Wednesday night, but up to 265 people still sought refuge in 70 government and community shelters before Dorian continued its march north, strengthening over warm waters.

Passela and Dellacorino-Thomas were scheduled to arrive in Orlando on August 30.

People who want to help can make donations by visiting redcross.org, calling 1-800-REDCROSS or text the word DORIAN to 90999 to make a 10-dollar donation to the American Red Cross.
