Local Groups Get Grants for COVID Expenses
Several community groups in the region are receiving grants from the Ascension Lourdes Auxiliary.
The former SOS Shelter “RISE-NY” is being awarded $4,000 to be used to support for children who have to do their school work online.
$4,000 is being allocated to Tioga County Rural Ministries to assist families who lost jobs due to the pandemic to pay their New York State Electric and Gas bills.
The Urban League of Broome County is being allocated $2,500 for scholarships for after-school programs.
Ascention Lourdes Youth Services is getting a $5,000 grant to be used toward in-school mental health support that were in danger of being cut due to state funding reductions.
The auxiliary is granting $3,000 to Cornell Cooperative Extension for support programs and to provide personal protective equipment to farmers and agriculture workers.
$2,000 is going to the St. Michael’s Meal Program and $2,500 to Allied Christians of Tioga County to purchase to-go containers and disposable cutlery and other items since meals can no longer be served in-house.
A final grant of $2,000 is being awarded to ACHIEVE to help purchase sanitizing products for individual resident homes that house developmentally disabled residents.
