Levell Sanders Promoted to BU Men’s Basketball Head Coach
The Binghamton University Bearcats Men’s basketball has an new coach, it is official, Levell Sanders will take over after serving as assistant coach for the past two years.
Last week Binghamton University Athletics announced that it wouldn't be renewing head coach Tommy Dempsey's contract.
Sanders is a former player recognized as a talented athlete at Seton Hall, and an All Big East selection.
Levell Sanders coaching resume doesn’t start with BU, he was head coach in the Czech Republic for five years before coming to the Binghamton University Bearcats.
Sanders is a New York native born in Brooklyn, his basketball pedigree includes both player and coaching experience on both the colligate and professional levels.
According to the news release from BU Athletics, Patrick Elliot PhD director of athletics said . "We are appreciative of Levell's willingness to lead the program at this time, and are confident he will continue to develop BU basketball and our student-athletes to on-court success."
Sanders was named All-Czech Republic League Coach of the Year in 2017 as he led his team to the elimination rounds of the FIBA Europe Cup, and posted 84 percent win record while in the All-Czech Republic League.
Sanders scored 1,399 points in his career at Seton Hall, and embarked on a professional career for 17 years were he was recognized as 2007’s All-Czech Republic League Guard of the Year and ranks 11th on the all-time leading scorer list in the Czech Republic.
BU Athletics are fortunate have such an easy fit to take over as head coach, Levell Sanders has a great understanding of player development.
