Get Ready For The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson In June
Sumertime is swim time! I learned how to swim at a very early age. It's one of my favorite things to do, especially in the summer when you can be in an outdoor pool.
While it's fun to cool off and have fun in water, safety is the main factor before dipping your toes into the water. It's important to learn how to swim before entering water.
According to a fact from the Town of Vestal, nearly 17% of all drownings in the United States happen during July. Therefore, it's important to teach children and adults life-saving water safety and swimming skills.

Have you heard about the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson™ event? According to the Town of Vestal, it's an international water safety event that occurs at pools, swim schools, and waterparks worldwide.
It is timed just before the 4th of July, which is the highest-risk holiday weekend of the year for water-related accidents. And the Town of Vestal will be one of the participants this year (2026).
The lessons will take place at the Vestal Memorial Pool on Thursday, June 25th. This national event was created to champion the message that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™, helping families stay safer during the summer swimming season.
In addition to learning how to swim, it's an excellent source of exercise and valuable family and friends time.
So, are you or someone in your family interested in learning how to swim?
There will be two lessons at the Vestal Memorial Pool, located at 111 Clayton Avenue in Vestal, at 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026. In addition to learning to swim or just participating, you'll get to learn valuable water safety skills and help break the record for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson.
Registration is required. It's a free event. To register and for more information, visit the Vestal recreation website.
