The Jim "Mudcat" Grant All-Star Golf Tournament held on August 29th at the Links at Hiawatha Island has raised over $47,000 to benefit several local non-profit organizations and homeless veterans in our community.  At a morning press conference today at Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York in Binghamton, Chairman, President and CEO of Security Mutual Life Bruce Boyea, made the announcement and presented checks to four non-profit agencies.

CHOW, Catholic Charities of Broome County, the Broome County Urban League and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Binghamton all were presented checks for $10,000 from proceeds raised from the golf tournament.  In addition Boyea presented a check for $7,142 to Binghamton Mayor Rich David to benefit the Homeless Veteran's Housing Project.

The Jim "Mudcat"Grant All-Star Golf Tournament has now been held for 18 years.  The event is organized by Security Mutual Life Insurance Company and promoted by Major League Baseball 20-game-winner Jim "Mudcat"Grant.  Grant is a member of the "Black Aces".  The "Black Aces" include African-American Major League Baseball pitchers who have won 20 or more games in a single season.

Participants include numerous celebrity athletes and coaches.  Area businessmen and women support the golf tournament and play in the event teaming up with the ex-athletes and celebrities. Various local businesses contribute to the event as well.
