Two Alarm Fire Damages Conklin Home/ Apalachin Fire Investigated
Two families in the Southern Tier are going into the holiday season with fire-damaged homes.
No injuries are reported after a two-alarm fire damaged a home in Conklin early in the morning November 23.
Firefighters from over a half dozen departments, including over the border from Hallstead, Pennsylvania, were called to the single-family home at 19 June Street at 3:01 a.m. Wednesday. The call for a second alarm was issued at 3:12 a.m.
The fire, which had been reported as starting in a bedroom, was knocked down and the fire departments were cleaning up at the scene at about 3:40 a.m. and looking through the structure for any lingering hot spots or areas where fire had gotten into the walls.
Fire investigators were also expected to be working at the scene through the morning.
There were no reports of injuries. There was not information available about how many people were living at the home.
The house is a three-bedroom, 1 1/2 bath split-level Colonial-style home located about halfway on June Street between Conklin Road and Midway Drive.
Firefighters from Conklin, Windsor, West Windsor, Town of Binghamton, West Colesville and Hallstead, Pennsylvania along with Broome Ambulance responded to the 3 a.m. fire.
There were also no injuries reported in a house fire in Apalachin hours earlier that drew firefighters from Tioga and Broome Counties to the scene.
That blaze was reported shortly before 6 p.m. November 22 at a single-family home at 3686 Pennsylvania Avenue, just north of the South Apalachin Baptist Church and a few miles from the Pennsylvania border.
That fire was said to have started in the living room of the home.
The extent of damage to the single-story house was not available.
