Business Brisk at Apalachin Trump Roadside Merchandise Stand
The people running a pop-up stand in Tioga County featuring items promoting Donald Trump's presidential campaign say they've been generally well-received.
Cody Clark said he's been operating the roadside business with his girlfriend for the last few weeks.
They've been setting up a small canopy with Trump-related items inside and outside. The stand at Sweeney's Plaza on Route 434 in Apalachin typically operates a few days a week.
Clark said yard signs and flags have been most popular among the people who stop by. He's also selling t-shirts, hoodies and stickers, along with coffee mugs and shot glasses featuring Trump and Republican vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance.
Clark said his experiences with most people at the stand have been positive but a few people opposed to Trump have made some negative comments. He said he respects everyone's opinion.
Finding spots to operate the pop-up shop has been challenging. Clark said many businesses in the area don't want to allow something that might generate controversy. He's still looking for other potential sites in Broome and Tioga counties.
