A Susquehanna County man has been convicted on murder and arson counts in connection with a Binghamton house fire that resulted in the death of a 17-year-old boy.

Jeremiah Raub was found guilty of three felony charges by a Broome County Court jury  late Wednesday morning.

Binghamton police arrested Raub in March 2023 in connection with the Milford Street blaze that killed Jeffrey Aissa. The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. on March 17, 2011.

Six of the seven people who were inside the East Side home at the time of the blaze managed to escape. But Jeffrey died inside the burning house.

Raub was convicted of one count of second-degree murder and two counts of first-degree arson. This was his second trial in the case. The jury could not reach a unanimous verdict in the first trial last January.

The jury decided to convict Raub on all three charges after deliberating for only a few hours.

In a news conference shortly after the verdict was announced, Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti praised the work of Binghamton police and fire investigators. He said "today justice was served."

Maureen Aissa, Jeffrey's mother, declined to comment but expressed appreciation for those who assisted in ultimately securing the conviction more than 14 years after the fatal fire.

A sentencing date for Raub has not been scheduled.
