I've traveled to many places throughout the country throughout the years and if they find out that I'm from the Binghamton area, I'm invariably asked about the spiedie. I try to explain to them what it is but it must be eaten to be understood.
I bring this up because there is a Twitter account, Regional American Food that has over 85,000 followers. They are devoted to sharing pictures of hyper-regional foods throughout the United States of America.
Spiediefest is a coincidence or not, but it certainly makes you wonder.Hundreds of people from throughout the country have spoken and a lot of people in the replies of the post apparently had spiedies before -- whether they currently live in the Southern Tier or they snagged a sandwich as they were passing through.
However, there were also plenty of people that were somehow perplexed that we would dare to put chicken on bread and call it a delicacy (WHAT!). Keep scrolling below to see the best responses from people weighing in -- both the good and bad.
