If you're looking for an excuse to pack up the car and take a summer adventure, you don't have to travel very far.

New York was just ranked the No. 4 best state in America for summer road trips, according to a new WalletHub study that compared all 50 states. The rankings looked at things like attractions, scenic drives, road safety and travel costs.

While New York didn't rank high for affordability, it scored especially well for the number of things to see and do, finishing third in the country for activities.

Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or a longer vacation, New York has plenty of places worth adding to your route.
