I was sitting in my office this morning writing this blog, and a thought came to mind. I wondered if the little guy will see his shadow today. Then it hit me, who really cares? How many people actually believe a fat little rodent can predict when spring will arrive?

Groundhog Day has always been a silly day of fun where a group of people pull the little critter out of a cage or housing and determine if it can see his shadow. The prediction is based on sky conditions. If it’s sunny, he’ll cast a shadow and we'll have six more weeks of winter. Overcast - you get an early spring, and mixed clouds and sun depends on when you yank him out into the open.

The world is full of people who believe in silly superstitions and rituals, so I thought I would make mention of a few today.

Most of us are introduced to a silly ritual from the time our parents plop a birthday cake in front of us and say, 'make a wish and blow out the candles'. Think back to those days. How many of us actually believed our wish would come true?

Did you ever pick a four leaf clover and keep it with you because you believed it would bring you good luck?

How about those superstitions, like walking under a ladder, having a black cat cross your path, or the ultimate day of bad luck, Friday the 13th?

The world is full of rituals and superstitions, and without thinking most of us buy into a few. I know I have, but Groundhog's Day is not one of them.
