Well, I've been thinking about this for a while. Is it time to adopt another greyhound?

I first laid eyes on a greyhound about 20 years ago, and fell in love with the breed. Before that, I really didn't know anything about this type of dog. Growing up, we mostly had beagles. When I was around 11 or 12, my father brought home a couple of large dogs that I can not for the life of me remember what kind of breed they were. The dogs were great, but something went wrong with their health soon after, and they both died within a month of each other. That was the end of getting any other breed except beagles.

My first dog was a mutt. He was the best, and will always be my number one. He lived to be just over 14 years old. It was several months after that when the idea of adopting a greyhound came about. Since then, I've adopted seven greyhounds. Currently, I have one greyhound and an italian greyhound who thinks he is a greyhound.

My current greyhound is very shy and I'm thinking maybe a companion would bring her out of her shell a bit more. I've had three dogs at a time before, so that's not an issue. Some greyhounds are not compatible around cats or small dogs, and so even though I don't have a cat, and my italian greyhound isn't really that small, I had one greyhound who had little patience with the little guy, so I have to be careful which dog to adopt.

The adoption group I get my greyhounds from, informed me over the weekend that five dogs are arriving from a racetrack in West Virginia. There are three males and two females. So now I have a decision to make. Do I bring another one home, and which of the five do I choose. Some have special needs, meaning they may be healing from a broken leg, or are on certain medications. One of the males just had eye surgery, and can only has sight in one eye. Those are the ones that make the best companions.

So, I have a decision to make soon, but it will be exciting if I do bring home another of what I believe are the best dogs in the world.
