Binghamton will continue to be the home of Galaxy Brewing Company as the craft brewer has chosen a new site for its operation.

After five years based in a downtown facility on Court Street, the business is preparing to expand production at a new site in the city.

Seth Weisel, who launched Galaxy Brewing with his father in 2013, said with the closing of the restaurant operation at the end of December, the company now will concentrate on making beer.

Weisel said Galaxy's beer production has been running at capacity for nearly three years.

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, Weisel said a site has been selected for Galaxy's new facility. Although he wasn't prepared to publicly announce the location in the city, he said "the really nice thing is there's a lot of space and there's a parking lot" for people who will visit the new tasting room.

Weisel said the plan is to develop large-scale production at the new location while also moving the existing small brewing system to the site for "new and fun" projects.

By staying in Binghamton, Galaxy Brewing also will continue to have access to the city water supply which, Weisel said, is important. He said "the brewing water here in Binghamton is very good." He said with basic filtering "our water is ready to go" without the need for additional costly treatment.

The new Galaxy site will include a canning line that will give the company more flexibility in future beer releases.

Weisel is excited about the future of Galaxy Brewing. He said: "Now that we're expanding, the roof is blown off... The sky's the limit!"
