The funeral service for Dennis "Matt" Howe, the New York DOT employee who died after a work zone crash, will be held in Owego.

The 45-year-old Howe died last Monday night of injuries sustained when a tractor-trailer struck a DOT truck on Route 17 in Nichols.

The funeral for the Candor man will be held at Owego United Methodist Church at 261 Main Street in Owego at 10 a.m. Monday.

Tioga County Emergency Services officials are advising drivers to expect traffic delays in the village of Owego Monday morning.

Main Street from Church Street to John Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Motorists passing through Owego are advised to use Front Street while Main Street is not open.

The funeral procession will travel Main Street to John Street to Front Street. It was proceed on a section of Route 17 before returning via Front Street to John Street to Main Street.

Officials urge residents to honor the procession from the sidewalk and not to stand in the roadway.

During calling hours in Owego Sunday, mourners passed by Howe's DOT work truck as they prepared to enter Estey, Munroe and Fahey Funeral Home.
