New York State Health Department officials say influenza is confirmed in 39 counties across the state.

Statistics released recently report 658 people were hospitalized for flu-related illness.  Flu season runs about from October to May.

Health officials say it’s not too late to get a flu shot and that is the best protection from getting the flu or for shortening the length of illness.

With yesterday’s numbers, officials declared flu was widespread in New York and health workers who have not gotten a flu shot will have to wear masks around patients.
