A man who robbed a Binghamton bank moved at lightning speed, jumping over a teller counter, filling his pockets with cash then leaping over the counter and running off.

Authorities say the heist at the M&T Bank Branch on the city's east side happened around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators say the robber entered the bank through a front door, jumped over the counter and demanded cash.

Bank workers backed away as the man removed cash from a cash drawer. He stuffed the money in the pockets of his clothing and jumped back over the counter before racing off on foot.

Detectives say the bandit was inside the bank for about 30 seconds. He is believed to have run north to a vehicle that was parked nearby.

The getaway car is believed to have been a navy blue or dark-colored four-door sedan. Police say it may have been a late-model Toyota Camry or Corolla.

The suspect was described as about six feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a hooded waist-length jacket with a camouflage pattern and dark-colored jeans. He used a dark scarf to conceal his face. He also was wearing black gloves and brownish-colored hiking boots.

Calvin Coolidge Elementary School and East Middle School were placed in "lockout" status for about 45 minutes after the robbery.
