Five Things Binghamtonians Do When The Weather Breaks
Spring is officially here, and while we didn't quite have the normal Winter experience in the Southern Tier of New York, we still look forward to warmth and (hopefully) some sunshine.
The Winter season lasts so long around here, that when that first warm day containing ample sunshine occurs, we tend to do things that haven't happened in awhile. It's as if the world has just come alive for the first time!
Here's some of the things I've noticed over the years when that first perfect Spring day arrives. What do you notice people in this area doing when the weather breaks in the Spring?
- 1
Take A Ride With The Car Windows Rolled Down
So the high temperature may only have reached 40 or 50 degrees on that first day, but to us in the Southern Tier of New York and Northern Tier of Pennsylvania, it's feels like it's 80, and down go the car windows (and the top if you have a convertible) to take in all that (sort of) warm, fresh air of Spring.

It's like we've all been hibernating in our homes form the past 6 months, and we just woke up. Just about everyone is out taking a walk around town, re-discovering our surrounding, and walking the dog for the first time in a long time.

Visit Your Favorite Ice Cream Stand
Yep, it's that time again when the ice cream stands open up for the season, and the traveling ice cream truck is circling your neighborhood. So what if it's only in the 40s and 50s temperature-wise, gotta have that cone!

Usually that's the least part of Spring I enjoy. I want my window rolled down, but I don't necessarily want to listen to someone else's choice of music. Now if it's a Lynyrd Skynyrd tune or some other Classic Rock song, that's fine, but otherwise, please turn down the level and that damn bass.

Want to get your car washed on that first warm day? Be prepared to wait in line, because it's going to be a long wait. With a Winter of road salt all over your ride, everyone wants to get rid of it, and return that gem (or in my case - rust bucket) to it's glory.
