If You Have This Tree, They’ll Be the First to Change Color in New York
Like me, have you been closely watching the trees in New York State and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania?
It's that time of year when our corner of the world will soon be awash in colors as our trees begin the fall foliage season. Hues of red, orange, red, yellow, and brown will soon fill our trees with a magnificent show.
With that, the leaf peepers from other parts of the country and possibly the world will be venturing into the Eastern U.S. states to take in the spectacular show of autumn.
Do you know what tree in New York State is commonly the first to show off the colors of the fall season? According to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC), Red Maple trees are the early birds of the foliage changers.

Why Do Tree Leaves Change Colors In The Fall?
Here's another question for you. Do you know why changes occur in trees during autumn? According to the Forest Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture website, scientists don't have all the answers yet, but they do know three factors influence autumn leaf color: leaf pigments, length of night, and weather.
So, when will we see the change of colors this Fall? The I LOVE NY's weekly fall foliage reports begin September 11th and will be updated weekly. The report will track 11 vacation regions in New York State. Peak fall foliage for the Southern Tier including the Greater Binghamton area should be around October 14th through the 19th.
Happy leaf peeping!
