Fire Results in Evacuation of Binghamton Restaurant
A popular Binghamton restaurant was evacuated when a blaze broke out two floors above the business.
City firefighters were called to the commercial and residential building at 1200 Vestal Avenue on the South Side shortly after noon Monday.
Authorities said the fire started on a third-floor porch on the back side of the structure. The blaze was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported.
Lunchtime customers at the South City Publick House restaurant on the street level of the building had to leave while firefighters brought the blaze under control. The business resumed operations a short time later.
The fire marshal's office was investigating the cause of the blaze. Initial reports indicated the fire may have been linked to something that had been placed into a plastic recycling bucket.
