Investigators are looking into the cause of a house fire on Binghamton’s South Side that kept firefighters on the scene for four-and-a-half hours.

The blaze on Burr Avenue was reported at around 4:54 p.m. May 27.

One person was reportedly taken to the hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation while the American Red Cross was called to assist two adults and two children displaced by the fire.

Damage to the wood-frame structure appeared to be primarily centered in the second-floor rear portion of the building although smoke and fire damage was reported on both the first and second floors.

Emergency Services officials say fire crews were able to leave the scene at 9:34 p.m.
