False Alarm: Crews Scrambled For Plane That Didn’t Crash in Hancock
Local emergency responders say a malfunction in a piece of equipment is to blame for scrambling crews to look for a possible plane crash in Delaware County September 28.
Alerts went out through several sources after 8 p.m. with reports that an airplane may have gone down near the Cannonsville Reservoir near Deposit.
Several fire and law enforcement agencies were scrambled to try to locate the missing airplane but it was determined after a couple hours that there was no crash.
Early September 29, authorities said there was apparently a malfunction in a transponder that sent out an alarm indicating an aircraft in trouble or had crashed.
Authorities had no other information about the plane or the pilot involved in the incident.
