Ed Stack on Store Weapon Policy: “We’d Do It All Over Again”

Dick's Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack isn't having second thoughts on his move to stop selling all assault-style weapons in the company's stores.

Stack spoke Tuesday to a lunchtime crowd in his hometown. He was the featured speaker at a Binghamton University Forum event.

The Binghamton native said last year's massacre at a high school in Parkland, Florida had an "unbelievable impact" on him.

After that mass shooting, Stack decided to remove all assault-style rifles from stores operated by the company that was started by his father in Binghamton.

Stack said he now is committed to pushing for "reasonable gun reform" in the United States in an effort to "stop this senseless killing."

Stack said he found it "so disappointing" when he met with some members of Congress and heard why new legislation on the issue wasn't receiving much support in Washington.

Regarding the controversial policy he implemented at Dick's Sporting Goods, Stack said "I'd like to think that we did the right thing."

Despite the harsh criticism from some customers, Stack said "We'd do it all over again and never think twice."

In recent days, Stack has been promoting his new book, "It's How We Play the Game: Build a Business. Take a Stand. Make a Difference."
