Dick’s Announces Internet Sales Expansion in Conklin
A nation-wide sporting goods retailer that was founded in Binghamton 70 years ago is expanding its online sales presence with a planned 245,000 square foot add-on in Conklin.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the state will support the expansion of Dick’s Sporting Goods at the Broome Corporate Park in Conklin with up to $1.2 million dollars. Dick’s is adding an internet sales fulfillment center and 500 full-time jobs over the next five years, according to a posting on the governor’s website.
The new Dick’s Distribution Center opened in January, about one and a half years after announcing plans to locate in the corporate park in Conklin.
The project is aligned with Southern Tier Soaring, the regionally-designed revitalization and local economic development effort.
Dick’s was founded 70 years ago in Binghamton by Dick Stack as a small fishing and tackle business. It now has more than 700 stores across the United States while maintaining a presence in Broome County. In addition to retail stores and the distribution facility locally, Dick’s is the title sponsor of the annual Dick’s Sporting Goods Open Golf Tournament in Endicott.
