A Georgia company is hoping to start construction early next year on a housing complex in Vestal.

Landmark Properties has plans to build a 161-unit development off Bunn Hill and Jensen roads, a short distance south of the Binghamton University campus.

Some town residents are fighting the project, which is planned for a rural area less than a mile from the Vestal Parkway.

The Vestal planning board heard a presentation about the Retreat at Bunn Hill project in March. The board canceled a later meeting because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Responding to questions from WNBF News, Landmark Properties provided a statement indicating the company is looking forward to hearing feedback from the planning board.

The company is considering "input from various agencies and stakeholders." According to the statement, the project will evolve based on discussions with local officials.

If the project is approved, Landmark plans to start development in the spring of next year. If that happens, the company expects construction could be completed in the summer of 2022.
