New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the Covid-19 "state of emergency" in the state is coming to an end.

The emergency declaration is set to expire on Thursday. Cuomo announced on Wednesday that he will not extend the declaration.

Although the state of emergency will be over, the governor said federal guidelines designed to prevent the spread of Covid will remain in effect. Masks are to be worn by those who have not been vaccinated. Face coverings also are required on public transportation and in certain institutions.

Cuomo said fighting Covid and vaccinating New Yorkers will remain "top priorities."
